When you snap a photo of a receipt, the image is sent to OpenAI for optical character recognition. The AI reads the text on the receipt, identifying the merchant name, individual line items, totals, tax amounts, dates, and payment method. Once the text is extracted, the AI analyzes the merchant name and line items to determine the most appropriate spending category.
